Late June: Food Writing in Rockport, Maine

The Craft of Writing Food: New Dates, New Material, New Guests

I’ll be back at Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine, for the second edition of this popular food writing worshop. June 23-29 are the dates for 2019 (and it will be strawberry season on the coast of Maine). You can find more information and register here: The Craft of Writing Food

This is for you:

If you want to be a food writer but don’t know how to start–

If you’re already a food writer but feeling stumped or uninspired–

If you’re just beginning or an already experienced writer.

The workshop is a great opportunity to explore every aspect of writing about food, from recipes to restaurant reviews, from profiles to feature articles, from food memoir to food history to the issues that make food a compelling read in today’s news. Read, write and share thoughts with your peers and colleagues about what makes the best food writing, what makes it salable, how to pitch a story, how to craft a cookbook, or just how and where to begin. Together, we’ll break apart the complex world of food writing and see what makes it work when it does—and also when it doesn’t.

Guest instructors lined up for this year include Ed Behr, editor-pubisher of the must-read Art of Eating (www.artofeating.com), and Brian Kevin, editor-in-chief of Down East magazine. More to come.

Incidentally, some generous scholarships are available for all writing workshops at Maine Media. On the above website you’ll find details about that too. If money is tight, please don’t hesitate to apply for a grant. We’d love to see you in Rockport in June!
